While studying toward his doctorate, he received the Merck Award recognizing scholastic achievement in the study of medicine. Before beginning his medical training, he graduated with a bachelor of arts in chemistry from the University of Colorado. For his outstanding undergraduate achievements, the university honored him with its Chancellor's Recognition Award.
In his private life, Dr. Keefe enjoys playing golf as a member of the Men's Club at the Patty Jewett Municipal Golf Course in Colorado Springs. He also follows Denver Broncos football as a season ticket holder.
